To Burgundy Canal

F11 gives full page view.

Gandhi stayed with us for three days as he was going to Saint Vinnemer on the Burgundy canal. We found that the Yonne was very dirty and the engine overheated quite often as the weed clogged the cooling system. We spent the first night at Villevallier and were entertained by a great thunderstorm as we were tied up alongside Gandhi On Wednesday we went on up the Yonne and entered the Burgundy canal at 1030 after being held up at Joigny lock which could only open one gate. During our first day in the canal Gandhi followed us to benefit from the water released as we passed the locks. We stopped at 1800 as it was a day of restricted passage. We walked to Flogny La Chapelle, got provisions, had a meal and watched the European Cup Final. ( FC Porto 2 – 1 Bayern Munich )

Lock entry

Rising in lock

Paul and Pierre

Thursday 28 May was Ascension day and the locks opened at 0900. We planned on going 15 km ( Tonnerre ) but eventually did 33. The locks should have closed at 1800 but we picked up three lads who lived at Argenteuil lock during the weekends and worked in Paris. They persuaded Pacy to open for us and let us through Argenteuil themselves. We had another BBQ.

Friday did us proud and we reached Montbard at 1345. Paul phoned the Canal Plaisance about mooring the boat till August and we agreed a fee of 300 francs.
