We set off at 0600 and entered the first lock on the Rhone - Ecluse Pierre Benite. As we were about to descend a barge appeared in the distance so we waited. The lock keeper agreed to phone Georges at Ecluse Sablons to tell him we were on our way. Once we were settled in the Rhone we timed the km posts as they passed and this gave us 12 km/hr. At lunchtime we tied up before the lock and went off for lunch with the lock keeper. When we set off down river his family was with us. They had phones Sarras and there were more waiting for us there. At Saint Vallier we tied up momentarily and took on our extras telling the rest that we would be in Valence in 3 hours. It took us five. At the Valence marina Pierre and I arranged for Sufiana to be kept over the winter and to be lifted out. Sufiana was set for the winter. |
