February, 1986.

Dear Entrant,

Thank you for entering the Banff/Stavanger Yacht Race 1986. The organising committee will do their utmost to ensure you find the experience worth while. A receipt for your entry fee is included at the bottom of this letter. If I may draw your attention to the following points:

1. Handicaps I enclose a CYCA handicap form which I would be obliged if all entrants would complete. This is the first year we are offered a IOR class one we will have to wait to see how many entrants wish to compete under this rating. It would be of assistance if you would enclose a note with the CYCA form if you wish to race IOR. (Yachts racing IOR have to obtain their own rating certificate). The organising committee, in an attempt to be neutral, leave all allocations of CYCA numbers to the CYCA handicap committee in Glasgow. If you have any queries as to your allocated number please write to them and not to us.

2. Customs & Bond I enclose a copy of customs form C1328. Please have this on board and completed on Tuesday 8th July, for custom clearance. I also enclose a booklet on regulations for pleasure craft going foreign. Please read this and save the custom officers time.

The customs booklet on stores will tell you your bond allocation. (If in any doubt consult your local customs office). To save time I will deal with bonded stores. Could you send to me your completed bond order form (re. form and price list enclosed) not later than one month before the race start. I will then make arrangements to have your bond delivered to Macduff on Tuesday 8th July, and it can be dealt with by customs at the same time as form C1328. You can pay the bond on the same day.

3. Coastguard Form CG66 This is for your safety. I will collect these cards (completed) at the pre-race briefing. (not before), so please bring it with you. At the start of the race when entrants and crew are known exactly, we send these cards to Norway Coast Guard, where they will be kept for the duration of the race and a few weeks after to cover your return. In an emergency, it saves time and maybe lives to have such information at hand. I will require the CG66's regardless of whether you have lodged one with your local Coastguard.

4. Pre-race Activities From the weekend prior to the race various celebrations and galas will be going on and if you can be here for them so much the better. The pre-race reception proper will be on the evening of Tuesday 8th July. Two free tickets will be allocated to each yacht entered and supplementary tickets can be bought from the race office. (I do not have an exact cost yet but they will be in the region of £4.00 a ticket). The reception will consist of a buffet and dance.

5. Prize Giving The prize giving will be organised by Stavanger Seilforening and a probable date is Sunday l3th July, but more about that later.

6. Prizes Each yacht entered will receive a commemorative burgee which will identify them as a competitor.  will have the following trophies to be awarded:

Huntly Equipment Rental Offshore Trophy Champers Night Club Offshore Cup

Highland Galvanizers Offshore Cup

Grampian Country Chickens Offshore Cup Caley Marine Offshore Trophy Donald Fraser Offshore Cup

Grampian TV Offshore Trophy Baldwin Offshore Trophy Moray Offshore Cup

Dauntless Offshore Challenge Shield , Fife Arms Offshore Trophy

Plus I believe some trophies donated by Norwegian sponsors.

The allocation of these prizes will be decided by the committee at a later date when the divisions and numbers in classes are known.

A prize winner will keep the cup for a year and receive a smaller plaque to retain.

7. Miscellaneous

a. If you require any accommodation in Macduff for , relations, friends or crew please contact Bill Alcock

in the Fife Arms Hotel (brochure enclosed).

b. Harry Scott of Kelvin Hughes Ltd., Aberdeen can supply you with any Norwegian charts (to be recommended). Contact him direct on Aberdeen 580823. Harry will also be taking part in the race.

c. We are at present in communication with SAS airlines as to reductions on the Aberdeen to Stavanger service for flying crew out or back. I will keep you informed.

As further details emerge I will send them out to you. If you have any questions telephone me on 08884325.

Yours faithfully,

P. Inglis

BOND ALLOWANCE

I. The Ship

The customs agree that the amount of duty-free stores the yacht will be allowed is as follows:-

For every day the yacht is out of the country it will be allowed! litre of spirits and 40 cigarettes per crew member.

eg. Return trip of 3 weeks duration with 4 crew:

    21 days out of country x 4 crew      = 84 of ¼ litre

                = 21 litres

    and 21 x 4 x 40 cigarettes               = 3360 cigarettes

As the warehouse only supplies in ½ or full cases of spirits or per 1000 cigarettes, these numbers have to be rounded off (up if you can!) to the nearest number of cases.

2. The Crew

In addition, each crew member is entitled to take out his personal allowance. I think any reasonable amount of beer will be allowed.
