Au Havre

As we approached Le Havre along the French coast we tried to start the engine - no go. The wind was NW 3 so we decided to sail into the harbour as we had an excellent plan of it. To be on the safe side we prepared the dinghy and the outboard to give us a bit of a push if we needed it. We rounded the harbour wall into a fleet of kids learning to sail so we lowered the dinghy tied alongside and started the Seagull. then we just drove slowly to the visitors’ pontoon and tied up - no sweat. The trip from Dover was 151 NM in 24 hours - an average of 6.3 knots

Arthur and John left Sufiana at Le Havre taking the hired life raft with them on the Townsend Thoreson ferry to Portsmouth. I phoned Rick and arranged to meet him at the ferry terminal when he arrived.
